The CPU can be considered the most important element of a computer. The performance of the system processor has a great influence over the overall performance of the entire system. The same goes for the RAM memory. These components should be upgraded from time to time, to be able to keep up with the latest games and applications.

But the problem is when to upgrade your processor and memory. For knowing this, you will first need to know what processor you are using and how good it is. Besides that, you will need to know how much memory your system has. This information is also useful when selling your computer, as you need to make up a list of components your computer has.

For all these problems, Windows is not enough, as the System Information tool included in it doesn't offer specific and detailed information. That's why one should install a separate application for this purpose. Programs like CPU-Z can help you in this case.

This simple Windows application offers you all the information you need in order to determine how good your CPU is and how much memory your system has. The installation wizard of CPU-Z is pretty much the same as the one of other Windows applications.

After installing the program and running it, it will first analyze the system hardware and after this process is complete, it will display detailed information regarding various system components, all grouped in several tabs. The first tab of the program displays complete information regarding the CPU, including its type, name, frequency, multiplier and so on. All this information is updated in real time, allowing you to see the true speed of the processor. Sometimes, the real speed can be different from the one stated by the producer. The program can also display the working processor speed in case of a notebook computer, allowing him to see if the automated frequency feature works properly.

But CPU-Z doesn't only display CPU information, in spite of its name. It can also show some information regarding the motherboard, like the model and chipset. It can also display complete info regarding the RAM memory, like the frequency and its size. GPU information can also be displayed when using CPU-Z, allowing you to see whether your graphic card needs replacing or it's still good enough for most games.

Pros

It can display complete and real time information regarding the CPU, memory, motherboard and GPU, allowing you to see whether your computer needs replacing or it's still good enough.

Cons

Some information may be difficult to understand by some users. CPU-Z allows you to view complete information regarding most of your computer's hardware information, all displayed in a simple interface and in real time.
